Whenever an Aamir Khan film hits theatres, it comes with sky-high expectations — and ever since Taare Zameen Par, audiences have longed for another heartfelt gem. This latest offering proves once again that Aamir knows exactly how to deliver. The film is a must-watch that will leave you laughing out loud in the theatre.

Both halves are engaging, never letting your attention wander for a second. Each scene packs enough power to thoroughly entertain. Just like he added an Indian touch to Laal Singh Chaddha, Aamir does the same here. While about 70% is true to the adaptation, the remaining 30% is Aamir’s personal touch.

Sitaare Zameen Par Plot

Meet Gulshan — an arrogant basketball coach who thinks of himself as nothing less than God. He cares for no one and lives in his own self-absorbed world. But life throws him a curveball: caught drunk driving, he’s sentenced by the court to community service. Now, he must coach a team where all the players are neurodivergent.

At first, Gulshan’s reaction is priceless — “What nonsense work have I been given!” But as he spends time with these kids, his entire world begins to change. What seemed like punishment becomes his greatest lesson. Slowly, his ego melts, his heart opens up, and he embraces these kids not just as their coach, but as his own.

How’s the Film?

Both halves of this film are equally delightful and win you over with laughter and warmth. Although the beginning of the second half dips slightly in pace, it quickly picks up steam again. Compared to Taare Zameen Par, you’ll find fewer emotional scenes here; instead, the story unfolds in a more humorous tone.

The climax leaves you with a powerful takeaway: those who win even after losing are true champions. This film will motivate you to never give up in life, and the standout line — “Sabka apna-apna normal” (Everyone has their own ‘normal’) — stays with you long after.

This isn’t just a film to watch, but one to feel. Because within each of us lies a Gulshan, afraid to understand those who are different.

Acting

Aamir Khan brings Gulshan to life so convincingly that you feel this man has genuinely changed. His acting is impeccable, reminding us why he’s rightly called Mr. Perfectionist. His expressions, dialogue delivery, and body language keep you glued to him in every scene.

Genelia D’Souza is like the light in Gulshan’s life. She speaks little but touches your heart in every frame. She plays the perfect wife with simplicity and depth, though her character could have been given more influence and impact.

However, the real magic comes from the ten neurodivergent actors — no overacting, no forced drama, just pure, heartfelt performances. They even manage to outshine Aamir in some scenes.

Dolly Ahluwalia delivers beautifully as Gulshan’s mother, and Brijendra Kala’s comic timing as her ‘good friend’ is spot-on. But it’s those ten special performers who steal the show.

Writing & Direction

Directed by R.S. Prasanna and produced by Aamir Khan, this official adaptation of the Spanish hit Champions is well-executed. Although a remake, the writing and direction keep a firm grip on the narrative, ensuring it never loses its charm.

Music

There isn’t much music in the film, but it doesn’t feel lacking either.

Verdict

This film will make you laugh, move you to tears, and leave you with a lesson you’ll carry for life. It’s a true feel-good watch that reaffirms why Aamir Khan is a master storyteller. Don’t just watch it — feel it!
